First Week Back via Instagram

Besides starting my internship and getting ready to begin the second year of my grad school program, I've been up to some tourist activities, catching up with friends, and being a Londoner once again!

A huge positive about being back in the UK? I get to watch Downton Abbey Season 4 now...rather than in December!

Back to eating delicious pub food!

There was an overload of Prince George souvenirs at Harrods.

I had brunch with a few of the girls from the Local Levo London group on Saturday. We had a few brunch cocktails, delicious food, and just caught up about careers and our summers.

And yesterday, I stopped in to see if Wills and Kate needed someone to babysit Prince George. Sadly, they didn't respond to the doorbell. Prince Harry, I would gladly babysit your nephew with you!

Week Recap

Since my last post where I fully admitted to academic purgatory, I tried to add more fun activities back into my life. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy my coursework as I have mentioned numerous time. And, I love learning. It's just that cramming 20 weeks into my brain is not something I enjoy.

On Tuesday, I attended a Local Levo League event. It was held in one of the buildings that was used in Skyfall. And, the view from the office spaces that we were in...was truly amazing! The evening was spent around asking for more. Specifically, we focused in how to approach situations of seeking more responsibility in the workplace as well as approaching the task of asking for a salary raise.  It was truly a great evening, and  I know the knowledge will be helpful in the coming years. Plus, I was able to catch up with so many amazing women that I know call my friends.

Wednesday evening, we had a sorority alumnae club event. I cannot recall if I mentioned, but I am now the Vice President of Event Planning for the Pi Beta Phi UK Alumane Club. I had organized the Founder's Day event in April, but I was in Scotland, so I didn't attend. The event this week was a Wine & Silver Spoons Potluck complete with a Cookie Shine. For my Pi Phi readers, I had been in desperate need of a cookie shine!

And, on Thursday, I got to attend the public event at LSE with Jared Cohen and Eric Schmidt. It has to be the best public event that I have been to at LSE so far! I got there early and wound up in the front row. Despite having a ticket, LSE events fill up quickly. I had to get there an hour early! But, it was worth the wait! Truly inspiring talk about digital media, the Internet, the future capabilities, and the ideas of the changing world landscape.

Jared Cohen and Eric Schmidt!
I'm off to go do some economics revision and laundry before a night out with a friend leaving for the summer! Stay tuned!

Week Recap

In between studying, writing papers, and not drinking numerous amounts of coffee, I've been trying to take advantage of London spring weather.

(Okay, okay...that does include drinking a lot of coffee no matter what I'm doing.)

On Friday evening, we had a MPA happy hour/welcome back drinks at a local pub near campus. It was great getting to see a lot of my friends after a month away.

On my quest to continue to find the best cupcakes in London, my friend Karen and I tried out Peggy Porschen Cakes in Sloane Square on Saturday. I met Karen at Local Levo London Launch Event! It's been a great resource for networking, but also finding new friends! We indulged ourselves on cupcakes and shared plenty of laughs!

Champagne and Strawberry Cupcake!
On Sunday,  a few of us got together to celebrate Cinco de Mayo! My friend, Manny, lives near Hoxton, and there is a large park that we spent the day in.

It's been great being able to add "fun" to my hectic study schedule!

Local Levo: London

This past Monday, I attended the launch of Local Levo: London. For those of you who do not know, Levo League is "a community for Generation Y women looking for mentorship, jobs, career advice, and peer networking." I've been a big fan of the start-up from the beginning and watched it expand to Office Hours with women in the workplace that are making a change and leaning in. Recently, they held an Office Hours event with Sheryl Sandberg.

The Local Levo: London launch event was an evening discussing negotiation of salaries, but also negotiation and asking for more in all aspects of the workplace. It was so inspiring to meet other young women that are facing the same battles that I am in terms of the job hunt and working towards their career goals. Plenty of connections and new friends were made. I cannot wait until the next event.

If you are in London and interested in attending, check out the Mightyball space for Local Levo London!
